SPEAKING TOPICS

WELLBEING AND MINDSET

  • Tonia opens up about the lifestyle that led her to a breakdown; working 14-hour days and not sleeping. She talks about what it’s like to lose control and suffer from clinical depression and anxiety, what it’s like to have your world fall apart, how employers don’t always understand mental health issues, but also what it’s like to reflect on life and bounce back.

Tonia’s story has a happy ending and she tells of the importance of having a support network, through family and friends who can cheer you on and prop you up.

  • Tonia shares her experience of overcoming barriers, ranging from academic struggles to mental health and coping with pressures as a woman in business. She talks about how she has faced these barriers, using a supportive network to help break them down.

  • Tonia talks about her initial struggles of not being a natural academic, her time at university, how difficult it was to fit in as ‘the brown girl’, and how she came to London in search of her fortune. Through finding what she didn’t want to do, she found exactly what she did want to do and that her forte lay in helping others achieve their aspirations.

  • Tonia speaks about the challenges she has faced, from her early life, through university and early adulthood to current day, and how she has embraced these, turning them into opportunities that have since contributed to her success.

Having left employment in Higher Education, Tonia took on the ultimate challenge in February 2020 of founding TG Consulting Ltd. She reflects on the challenges she has faced as an entrepreneur, building a business in the midst of a global pandemic, and how a little challenge is never a bad thing.

  • Tonia talks about her rise through the ranks, holding senior positions at both Kingston University and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) finding disadvantaged young people the opportunities they deserve, up to modern day, as director of TG Consulting.
